Slain by a Bricklayer, a Teacher and a Carpenter!
There have been some brilliant and memorable giant killings in the past when top-flight clubs were knocked out of the FA Cup by a non-league team, the last being when Sutton Town despatched Coventry City in 1989 when bricklayer Matt Hanlon scored the winning goal making the final score 2-1. In 1975, geography teacher Mickey Mahon scored Wimbledon’s winning goal against Burnley in the third round of the FA Cup giving them a 1-0 victory. Probably the most memorable giant killing was in 1972, when Hereford United played against Newcastle. It was carpenter Ronnie Radford who saved the day with his equalising goal in the 85th minute which forced extra time. In the 103rd minute he played a part in the winning goal scored by Ricky George which resulted in their famous 2-1 victory.
